Weekly social run clubs for girls
What is The Girls Run Club?
About the Group
The Girls Run Club is a grassroots initiative, founded to create a space where girls can run, talk, and learn without pressure or competition. We meet regularly for social, non-competitive runs and participate in local fun runs to foster a sense of achievement and community. What makes the club unique is our educational component: at our sessions, we invite guest speakers to talk about topics that directly impact girls' confidence and participation in sport, including fueling their bodies, understanding their menstrual cycles, and navigating body image.
By pairing movement with meaningful conversations, we aim to normalise the challenges girls face and equip them with the knowledge and confidence to stay engaged in sport, and in themselves, for the long term.
Why This Matters
Girls drop out of sport at much higher rates than boys, often due to body image concerns, lack of support during puberty, or simply feeling like they don’t belong in athletic spaces. The Girls Run Club is intentionally designed to counter those trends. By creating an environment that is free, welcoming, and informative, we remove financial, social, and emotional barriers that often stand in the way.
The physical benefits of movement are well documented, but the social and emotional ripple effects are just as powerful. Girls in our group not only feel stronger physically; they feel seen, heard, and part of something bigger. They learn to trust their bodies, value their voices, and show up for themselves and each other.
The Bigger Picture
When we support girls in sport, we’re investing in future leaders, change-makers, and community builders. The Girls Run Club goes beyond running, we foster a sense of agency, resilience, and belonging. As we expand, we’re also turning our attention to the bigger issues, participating in climate-focused challenges and exploring how sport can be a force for social change.
With support from grants and partners, we can scale our impact, offering more sessions, reaching more girls, and continuing to break down the barriers that keep too many from experiencing the joy and power of movement.
